A Roman Gladiator was a fighter and warrior who entertained audiences in Ancient Rome, fighting animals, other warriors, and convicted criminals. While some gladiators were volunteers, the majority were slaves, and were segregated from the rest of society. 

The word ‘gladiator’ comes from the word ‘gladius’ which was a type of Ancient Roman sword.
